Our History...
Though no historical records exist, the RidgeRunners were formed in the late 1970's under the auspices of the Lake Ridge Parks & Recreation Association (LRPRA) as one of their community club offerings. To this day we operate as a family oriented group who run/walk and socialize together. We are not a track team!
We have members of all ages and training levels from recreational runners
to those training for their first 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon, 50 and 100 mile ultramarathons
(aka Team Lunatic). RidgeRunner membership is an excellent way of finding out what is involved in taking the next step in your running/walking goal. Please don't let the distances dissuade you as we are all just a group of folks just testing our
physical boundaries! You don't know your potential until
you reach and surpass it! We have some folks who would love to talk to you about it.
Our typical training runs in the community range between 4-6 miles, but we do periodically run longer distances due to specific training goals. We often run trails on the weekends for a nice change of scenery and pace. Some of our running locations on the weekend include Pr. William Forest Park, Manassas Battlefield Park, Burke Lake, Massanutten Mountains and the Shenandoah National Park.
Our trail runs are for pure enjoyment of the surroundings with a nice dose of "workout". We usually speed walk the up-hills and then take advantage of the flats and down-hills. We also take water breaks to enjoy the scenery and to ensure that our group is intact. Once you match up with specific running partners, you can then dictate frequency and distance of your runs on the roads or trails.
If you are coming back or new to a regular running regimen it doesn't put you at a disadvantage in training with us. We try to create an opportunity for anyone interested in running and/or walking for exercise or competition and to meet others interested in our sport. Our membership consists of a wide range of athletes, from the competitive runner to the individual interested for their own well-being. Membership is by household (single, married, children are included!).
During the year, we try to schedule Road Trips to certain races for
us to participate as a group. For example, for 10+ years we have traveled
to VA Beach for the Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon
& 8K in March and the Annapolis
10 Mile Run in August. We also sponsor two races of our own each year
in the Lake Ridge Community:
We hope this short introduction has peaked your interest to join us in
enjoying our sport. If you are unfamiliar with running and/or just starting
out, this may seem overwhelming. I would like to invite you to link up
with us for a training run to insure we're what you're looking for. If
you have any questions, please don't hesitate contact us at:

We have become an electronic club.
Club communication is primarily through this website, our
Bulletin Board, e-mail and networking at our organized runs/walks. As
with most organizations, membership won't get you much
if you don't participate in any of our activities.
