FAQ

Several of our club members use jogging strollers on our popular nightly runs.  The Monday afternoon, Wednesday morning, and Saturday Bull Run Trail runs are not stroller friendly.  For safety purposes, we ask that you wear reflective gear during evening group runs and add reflective tape to your stroller.

Yes, we did.  High school and middle school aged kids should be able to complete our shorter running distances, while younger children can bike alongside their parents.  Children 12 years and older can join us on our runs unsupervised, but younger children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.  No exceptions!

Absolutely!   You should, however, always consult your physician before engaging in any new physical activity.  The RidgeRunners is a community- and family-friendly club.  Our members’ fitness and endurance levels and ages vary greatly.  Many of our members became runners by joining us on group runs.  We welcome children, walkers, and cyclists as well.  There is truly a place for everyone in our club.  All you need is the will to go forward.  Come join us!

There are two RidgeRunners Club annual races: the May Day 5K (first weekend of May) and the Turkey Trot 10K Run and 5K Walk (weekend before Thanksgiving).  Both events start and end at the LRPRA headquarters parking lot (12350 Oakwood Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22192).

Our group run distances vary. Typically, members follow a single predetermined route at their preferred pace. We just turn around at different points on the course: 7M, 5M, 5K/3.1M, or 2M. Anyone can walk/run two miles. Trust us!

On some weekends, we travel to run longer distances. Favorite routes include Burke Lake Park, Prince William Parkway (departure from McCoart government complex), Occoquan Regional Park, Mount Vernon Trail, Prince William Forest Park, Bull Run Trail, and Fountainhead Regional Park. Many of these routes and trails can be traveled on bicycle and walking is always an option.

Please see the schedule page on this website.  All group runs and event information, including location, will be posted there as well as Facebook.  You may also link your email calendar to ours by clicking on the Google calendar icon at the bottom of our schedule page.  Starting this fall, we will coordinate more group runs and offer early-morning weekday runs in addition to our current schedule.  We will always post weather-related cancelations and emergency announcements in a timely manner.  Most of our runs are offered on a rain or shine basis.  For safety reasons, we ask that you wear reflective gear and bring a flashlight or headlight to our evening group runs.  We strongly suggest that you follow us on Twitter to receive last-minute announcements.

The RidgeRunners Club Board of Officers has created membership documents and selected appropriate amounts for our annual dues that will be affordable for everyone while covering our Road Runners Club of America insurance needs. We are a non-profit organization and, as such, we will maximize every dollar deposited to benefit our members.

For your convenience, you will be able to pay dues through Paypal (eventually) or by paying with cash or check. Please make checks payable to Lake Ridge RidgeRunners and turn in to our registrar or mail to RidgeRunners Club c/o LRPRA, 12350 Oakwood Drive, Woodbridge, VA 22192.

The RidgeRunners’ fiscal year begins on September 1. Regardless of the date you join, your membership will always expire on August 31. Dues are $15 for an individual membership and $30 for a family membership.

The first thing you should do is come to one of our group runs.  Familiarizing yourself with the club, its members, and our welcoming atmosphere is key.  We know there’s a place for you among us!  You should also link your email calendar to ours by clicking on the Google calendar icon at the bottom of our schedule page.  Next, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.  We promise not to inundate you with unnecessary information nor share your personal information with second or third parties.  Finally, once our registration page is added to this website, you will be able to fill out a membership form and pay our annual dues, which are typically quite low.  That’s it.  You’ll then be a RidgeRunner!
